Purple Reign

Flowers don’t usually photograph well in bright sunlight.

Our eyes are better at picking up bright colors than cameras are. Cameras tend to overexpose and bleach the colors in bright flowers; to our eyes, the bright light just makes the colors dance with more energy. So open shade or an overcast sky help a camera pick up the more nuanced shades in a flower.

Even then, it’s pretty hard to get the camera to capture the flower’s real color. You generally have to settle for something that’s also nice, if not quite the same.
